Job Description

Responsible to the Vice President of Collections and Fraud for the management of all aspects of collections, loss mitigation and fraud prevention. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, delinquent accounts, charge-offs, bankruptcies, foreclosures, legal action and garnishments, repossession and remarketing, and fraud monitoring and prevention, while complying with all State and Federal laws and regulations and credit union policies. The Director of Collections, Loss Mitigation and Fraud interfaces with attorneys, conducts vendor selection processes, manages vendor relationships, and implements and monitors outsourced collections activities, such as skip tracing and CPI. The Director of Collections, Loss Mitigation and Fraud leads the Manager of Collections, Manager of Loss Mitigation and key identified staff roles.

Responsible and Accountable for the following:

Collections:

  • Effectively manage all aspects of collections and legal processing, and negative shares/account review in a fast paced environment.
  • Audit and make decision on bankruptcies, legal action, and repossessions, to ensure the timely liquidation of assets and mitigate losses for the credit union.

Loss Mitigation and Fraud:

  • Effectively managing all aspects of Loss Mitigation and Fraud, including, but not limited to, bankruptcy, foreclosure, legal action and garnishments, repossession and remarketing, recoveries, and fraud, for a portfolio consisting of Mortgage, Home Equity, Auto, Credit Card, and other Consumer loans.
  • Working with the team, assess individual and team performance.
  • Identifying and implementing effective, streamlined processes and procedures to reduce the number and severity of loan losses, with the ability to make modifications to processes, procedures, staff structure, and business partnerships as necessary in the changing environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong background and deep knowledge of Collections and Loss Mitigation, including an in-depth understanding of bankruptcy law, foreclosure processes, auto loan repossession and remarketing process and fraud prevention.
  • Experience with effective collections on delinquent accounts, charge-offs, bankruptcies, repossessions, recoveries, legal processing, fraud, foreclosures, insurance, and dealer direct lending programs.
  • Exceptional judgment in offering customer service to members, adhering to policy, complying with Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and other applicable regulations, while protecting the credit union assets by identifying opportunities to reduce losses.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 – 7 years combined experience in collections, loss mitigation and fraud prevention or 8 – 10 years combined experience in collections, loss mitigation and fraud prevention.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years in a management or supervisory position within a financial institution or collections agency.
  • Experience with vendor selection, agency monitoring, and implementation of outsourced processes preferred.
  • Strong collection insight to direct third party agencies to deliver desired results.
  • Demonstrated project management leadership in prior roles is preferred.
