Job Description

The Loss Mitigation Manager is responsible to the Director of Collections, Loss Mitigation and Fraud.  Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, delinquent accounts, charge-offs, bankruptcies, foreclosures, legal action and garnishments, repossession and remarketing, and fraud monitoring and prevention, while complying with all State and Federal laws and regulations and credit union policies. Lead department personnel-related issues including participation in the hiring process, training, coaching, motivating, recognizing, assigning queues and work, performance evaluations, correcting performance or behavior deviations and monitoring work daily in support of departmental goals.  Understands and effectively communicates organizational vision to direct reports.

Qualifications include the following:

  • College Degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years demonstrated progression in job-related or equivalent management experience.
  • Strong collection, loss mitigation and fraud insight to direct third party agencies to deliver desired results.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required for interfacing with and negotiating complex issues with members, peer group management and senior management.
  • Strong leadership skills to ensure that full staffing, consistent remote monitoring, thorough queue audits, adequate training, and staff development needs are met.
  • Analytical ability to understand, interpret, and develop various reports and data.
  • Knowledgeable in the coordination, tracking and reporting of delinquency and performance data.
  • Strong problem solving skill and understanding of system logic.
  • Exceptional judgment offering customer service to members, adhering to policy, complying with Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and other applicable regulations, while protecting the credit union assets by identifying opportunities to reduce losses. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience with effective collections on delinquent accounts.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities for automation.
